One Level Above Perfectionist

Tonight while I was at work, I was pondering to myself while still preparing orders "What should my first blog of the night be for my all night blogging?" Then it hit me! As a couple of orders came in and we slowed down for a little bit, I began cleaning up my station and the light bulb turned on.

For those who know me and/or just happen to be around me understand that I am a perfectionist. Everything has to be in its place, areas around me must be cleaned, documents in alphabetical (hence the photo above] and notes (school notes in particular). Technically and by the studies of doctors, therapist and scientist, I would be diagnosed with OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder). Why call it a disorder? Is my need to visually and physically feel that items are in place a disorder? Am I not allowed to believe I deserve only the best of anything I come in contact with? This is not a disorder, no, I just have extremely high standards.

Yep, everything reduces down to standards. What are you willing to settle for? Is okay good enough for you? Is only being content really worth not going the extra mile for better results? Me becoming a perfectionist grew over time. I was a kid at one time, everything may not have been exactly in order, however I knew it was perfect for me. As I grew up more, keeping myself in contempt with those surrounding me was not a member of my standards list.

Attending college is where my perfectionist mindset blossomed from a seed in some soil, into a flower that wanted to grow in multiple soil types and environmental conditions. In an octavo point of view, I desire to be more then just one straight piece of paper.

Average—so far away from her I declared to be; in due time, I always declined her offer when she asked to just stand by me for a few minutes.

Perfectionist—my new best friend, how much I love you. The more and more I got to know you, the more and more you told me "There is always better and together we can grow more then anybody ever imagine." I look at her tonight, she looks at me and she whispered..... "Do you believe you grown personally as a man from the first time we met? Kenon, have I grown from the first time you met me? Have we grown together since the first time we met" I answered to her in sequential order.....

"Yes, I do believe I have grown from the first time we met. I wouldn't be the man that I am tonight if we never met. You, oh you've grown to be such a beauty. Never settling for what others would settle for. Your standards are impeccably incomparable to anyone else. Not only did we grow together, we grew closer together. You trust me enough to know that there is one more level above you that I can meet."

She then re-introduced herself to me as if we never met before.... "Hello Kenon, my name is Meticulous Perfectionist and it is a pleasure to meet you."

So Good Oh So Good!

Well this past week has been quite amazing in so many ways! First off I was introduced from one of my college advisors Becky Reed about the Denver Magazine Editorial Food Inter Position. I was so excited, I began re-touching my resume immediately that day [Monday].

Me and a new friend of mine Morgan (all her idea) are in the process of developing a Photography Club on campus; what a nice unintentional pun right? :).... We held our first interest meeting this past Friday and I believe it went well. We had a great turnout for what we may have expected, so now that work will continue on.

Now as of today, I just confirmed an interview with the Denver Magazine for the Editorial Food Intern Position! I am so excited that as I posted on my Photography Facebook Page, after work tonight I will begin posting photos on my Photography Facebook Page as well as on my Flickr Page. Also, I will be posting as many blog posts as I can all night on both here and my Food Blog.

Oh by the way, yesterday I recently purchased a new peacoat and a shirt and tie. I will not reveal the colors to you, however, understand that my dress apperal for this Fall/Winter season will be completely different then it has been in the past.! :)

Well I hope everyone have a great day! I have some more planned daily tasks to attend to! Talk to you later :)

Is It Too Good To Be True? Or Is It Deserving Of?

As every college school year begins and every school year ends, the only easy beginning year was my Freshman year........ Until this year. It's not like I think conceptually if its going good, its too good; however, this year is different. As I submerge myself and my planner with work, responsibilities and tasks to conceive majority of the time on a clock throughout every day, I wonder, why is it easier this year?

Durring this past summer, I knew that I needed to grow as a person. Not to say I was immature in anyway shape or form, I just love the retainment of new, positive oras, growth and pressure within each and every minute. Who can stay within the same routine without an oz of changing up? Surely not the guy who is typing this post, that's for sure!

Well, from financial hardships that if I decided to type on here, I would probably ask for a publisher to jstu start my own autobiography! If you understand the above average, over-acheiving college student, then you have a sense of what I am talking about in a common sense way.

As I type here today, I am still the over-achieving person I have always been and it feels good! It feels good to know that the point where I am at now I know the answer to the question "Is it too good to be true?" The answer to that is no, because with the persietnce and personal drive that i have is, is it deserving of me to finally be on a stable ground of not worrying about anything other then the positive? Yes, yes it is deserving of!

Thrusday?! It's The Weekend!!!!

Well it's Thursday and according to my universities schedule after the last class of today, our weekend begins! My alarm didn't go off this morning, the one time I take a good night's rest and I over slept missing my one and only class for today. People wonder why I don't like sleeping? This morning was a prime example! On the brighter side though, it is the weekend which means organizing time for me! (YAYYYY!!!!)

Between school, starting a new job, being in a Leadership program, a leader for 1st year students group, balancing my blogs and articles, I will give myself a B+ right now. Ending the 4th week of school, with my personal grading, I am doing fine, but just fine isn't okay with me. Yep, self-professing perfectionist and I'm not afraid to say it. I don't call it OCD because its not a disorder in my eyes, I believe I was born this way and it took some time for me to realize and act upon it.

Let me inform you more about myself as I want people to know more about me. *PSA: You'll understand as time progresses.

Every since I was a kid for some strange reason I had a problem with letting one person know everything about me.  I felt like if there was one person who knew everything about me, they would poses the kryptonite stone of information that could be used against me at anytime. Years and years, I still held to that belief that no one person should know everything about me, not my mom, best friend, family, no one! Now I'm in college and even now I've had to mature. moving from Kansas City, KS to Denver, CO was without a doubt the best decision I've made as an independent young adult ever! Maturing more in the (going on 3 years in Denver) than I ever have in Kansas City, I'm finally in a place of comfort personally.

Until this year, if you ask anybody who knows me, ask them what's one thing about Kenon that you know. 90% would probably say something along the lines of "Well, he always has his iPOD with him and in his ears." This year, I'm different though, I've decided to be receptive to all feedback,  understand what people really think of me. Conceiving the idea of "How about I not listen to my iPOD as much as I have in the past?" Well that's probably the biggest maturing personal move that I have achieved since living in Denver! Oddly enough, people recognize it; and not just a little but I mean a lot! I've friends come up to me on multiple accounts stating along the lines of "WOW! Kenon you don't have your iPOD in your ears!" "This is the longest period of time I have ever not seen you with your iPOD!" "Is there something wrong, you don't have your headphones in?"

Well I have to get back to work, send out some emails, fill out paper work for the new job and run what I've been told by my college mentor "The Kenon Thompson Empire!" Have fun, smile, laugh (and if you do) enjoy coffee!!!! It's the weekend!!!!!!!!!

Always Room To Grow Personally

"Even as a perfectionist I'm wise enough to know there is always room to become greater." - Kenon Thompson (Me)

As a young kid, I may not have been as mature personally then my parents was, but I was definitely at my older brother's level. I knew the difference between what was fun to do and what was down right immature. I knew that wearing my pants low (aka saggin') was/is ignorant and unattractive to women with real standards. I knew that immature jokes was/is only fun if you're an immature person. Now don't get me wrong, I love to have fun and joke around, but I know the difference between being a grown having fun and being grown acting like a young immature kid.

I know I've changed from what I was and what I am now. From the music I listen to, to the clothes that I wear and from the mindset that I have. Everyday I think to myself "What can I become better at?" Then I ask my self the next question "How can I become better at it?" No I am not crazy, but being a person who like psychology, it is known that some people comprehend better by hearing something first from their own voice then just thinking it in their mind.

Like myself, you can be a complete perfectionist (self proclaimed or critically), but remember that there is always room to grow personally.
